Imaginative wallcoverings...

I'm head over heels about imgs wallcoverings , an Australian website that features wallpapers and murals by some of my favourite designers, including Claire Leina from France, whose work has featured in the past here at the The Poppy Club. Working with hugely talented designers from across the globe, imgs produce wallcoverings that are made to order and use solvent-free inks printed on non-pvc paper. I have included a few pieces below that caught my eye but there are many many more, so take a tour of the site - you won't be disappointed!

Pigeons and Jelly : A happy combination

Thornback & Peel don't shy away from much. Combining the often-hated urban pigeon for example, with much-loved childhood jelly , they put together unusual designs for the home and garden that raise eyebrows and  liven-up a living-space. Who would think of a cabbage as a suitable napkin design? Or cuddling up to fusha pink beetles on the sofa? The appeal of these great creations lie in the whacky choice of motif portrayed in an out-of-context colour. I love it!

The belle of the ball

I came across Belma Kapetanovic Kapetanovic over at Print and Pattern. She's a postgraduate student in textile design, who uses natural, organic forms as inspiration for her fabrics and wallpapers. The results are abstract yet retain the vitality of living organisms to great effect!

A New York Treasure: Trove

I'm guessing that the word "trove" rarely comes without "treasure" somewhere close by, which in the case of this New York wallpaper designer, is conveniently apt. With a range of delicate, ethereal creations, Trove seem to specialise in designs that look as if they are hand-painted in watercolour, depicting cloudy skies, flocks of birds or floating petals. The colours too are often soft, fading shades of pink, sage green and blue although there are one or two bold exceptions that stand out from the crowd. Great for large, light open spaces.

Anyone for cricket?

The sporting season is not yet over but with test matches, Wimbledon and the world cup it's been quite a summer for sport! I'd not really thought of any of these events as a source of aesthetic inspiration but as Turner Pocock Cazalet proves with these cricket and tennis themed wallpapers, they make for great decor!

Yukari Sweeney

I totally love these wallpapers and lampshades by Yukari Sweeney. There's a kind of nostalgia for the drawing room chintz that is nonetheless contemporary in colour scheme and execution. I think they're really beautiful and love the warm, soft tones that she prefers.A new favourite to add to my ever-lengthening list of wallpaper designers!

camilla diedrich

From time to time I come across something that really steals the show and I think this month it has to be the wallpapers of Camilla Diedrich in Sweden.  Often using the electrical imagery of sparks and frazzled cables, her papers are sharp and mouthy, yelling big ideas and bold sophistication. Used in strips as in the pictures below they make a dazzling wall feature. No need for shots of cafeine with such instantly energizing decoration!

Turkish delight - studio Nommo's great wallpapers

Introducing the first ever Turkish Poppy Club post!

Offering custom designs and exclusive patterns, Studio Nommo have a really exciting range of wallpapers and a great website on which to view them. I have selected a few but there are honestly several that warrant a mention. I particluarly like the coffee pots below (visually as well as of course for the Turkish connection)in fact it's this type of "repeated object" pattern that Nommo do especially well : walls splattered with typewriters, windows or houses for example have a really striking effect!

There's no place like home!

I wanted to post about Isak , partly becasue they are based in the same part of England that I hail from (ah, yes. There's no escaping your roots) and partly because their designs are just adorable and ideal for childrens' rooms. The Penguin paper below comes in blue, silver and pink while the pieces shown in the last 3 photos are customised one piece papers, sized to fit your wall.

I've included a photo of their cups becaue they are too cute to miss out!
